Dunlop Ambattur staff to negotiate final settlement
Chennai, The management of Dunlop India Ltd and its workers led by the Dunlop Factory Employees Union (DFEU) have entered into a six-month agreement providing for stopping production at Ambattur and negotiating for a final settlement.

According to Mr D. Devanathan, General Secretary, DFEU, the union led by its President, Mr A. Krishnaswamy, a Member of Parliament, and the management have entered into an agreement for the period between October 1, 2008 and March 31, 2009, when the 734 workers in the Ambattur factory will be paid a settlement allowance of Rs 2,700 a month.

The agreement would cover all the workers on the payroll as on October 1, 2008. There would be no production; the workers will be paid the consolidated amount and not have to report for work. During the six months DFEU would negotiate with the management for a final settlement, he said.

The agreement also provides for expediting the payment of gratuity to workers who have retired and are to retire during the six-month period and other issues to be taken up by the DFEU on behalf of the workers.

The agreement finalised in the presence of the Tamil Nadu Labour Department officials was signed by the management representatives Mr Lionel Suresh, General Manager Works and Mr M.A. Khan, Head of Operations, Dunlop?s plant at Ambattur, he said.
