Maruti drives 10 lakh 'Alto' on Indian roads
NEW DELHI: The country's largest car maker, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI), is set to complete the sale of 10 lakh units of its small car 'Alto' in the domestic market on Tuesday, after launching it about eight years ago.

The firm completed the production of 10 lakh units of the car in February this year.

A senior company official said that the first five lakh units of the Alto were sold in six years of its launch, while the next five lakh units sales happened within just a little over two years.

Besides the domestic market, MSI exports the car to countries like Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, Finland, Greece, Austria, Ireland, the UK, France, Italy and Sweden. So far it has exported over 1.8 lakh Altos.

The company plans to start exporting the Alto soon to new markets like Denmark, Hungary and Portugal, the official said.

MSI had launched the Alto in September 2000, with two variants. Currently it sells three variants of the car in the domestic market.
