TN govt checks out land availability for project
CHENNAI: With competition hotting up among Indian states for attracting Tatas Nano project, the Tamil Nadu government would not like to be left behind in the race. Top officials of the government, on Monday, rushed to sites near Chennai to ascertain the land availability for the project.

According to reliable sources, a team of top TN officials surveyed industrial centres, near Chennai. Topping the choice of locations was Cheyyar, where the state-owned SIPCOT has at its disposal 4,000 acres. With such a large land parcel, it would not be a difficult task to allot 1,000 acres for the Tata Nano project, informed sources told ET.

However, official circles made it clear that the state is not interested in joining the incentive war among the states triggered by the project. TN is not for bagging investments based on incentives. We would like to attract the project based on our strenghts.

Further, official circles said While Tatas have not paid any upfront fee to house its project in Singur, other foreign investments in TN have come on the back of zero subsidy and land at cost basis.
