Punjab, Haryana CMs woo Tatas to set up Nano project
HOSHIARPUR: Two days after Tatas pulled out from Singur, Punjab and Haryana governments on Sunday said they would soon invite the corporate giant to set up the much-touted Rs one-lakh Nano car project in their states.

The Punjab government would soon approach Ratan Tata, the chief of Tata group of industries, to set up its dream project in the state, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal told reporters here.

"If he agrees, the state will extend all possible help for installation of the project to enable Nano car to roll out in time," he said.

Before setting up the project at Singur in West Bengal, the Tatas had approached the then Congress government in Punjab for setting up the car manufacturing unit in the state, the SAD supremo said.

Instead of assuring all help, the then Chief Minister Amarinder Singh discouraged the group resulting in shifting of the unit to Singur, he said.

In Sirsa in Haryana, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said he would soon talk to representatives of the Tata company to persuade them to set up the small car project in his state.

"Every facility will be provided to the company," he told reporters on the sidelines of a function.

Peeved at political opposition, the Tatas yesterday pulled out the Nano project from West Bengal with a disappointed Ratan Tata blaming Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee for the painful decision.
