Tata Nano may quit Singur, says Nirupam Sen
Tata Motors will most likely exit Singur, the plant where it had planned to manufacture its low cost Nano car. West Bengal Industry Minister Nirupam Sen has informed his Cabinet colleagues that there was little possibility of Nano being rolled out from Singur. According to sources, Tata Motors is planning to roll out the car from its plant in Pantnagar, reports Economic Times.

A team of officials from Tata Motors (Q, N,C,F)* is meeting senior bureaucrats of the Uttarakhand government on Thursday to press for a crucial 100-acre plot adjacent to its existing auto facility in Pantnagar. The company currently has plant at Pantnagar spread over a 1,000 acres, where it manufactures Ace pick-up. The company will need 1,100 acres of land to manufacture Ace pick-up truck and Nano in tandem.

Tata Motors plans to roll out some 200-300 Nanos per day starting from the October-December quarter.

In Singur, Tata Motors had faced violent protest from farmers unwilling to part from their land for the plant.
